Jon Herington
Executive Officer (ANU)
Jon Herington brings a combined scientific and political science background to his position as Executive Officer for the National Centre. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology and a Bachelor of Arts (with first class Honours) in International Relations from the University of Queensland. In 2007 he completed a prize-winning thesis on the response of governments in Southeast Asia to outbreaks of avian influenza. Jon has worked in medical research laboratories, in grant administration and has interned with the Sea Power Centre (Royal Australian Navy).
He is currently studying for his doctorate in international relations and ethics at the Centre for Applied Philosophy and Public Ethics. His research interests include the security implications of avian influenza, the interface between scientific and political understandings of disease, and the ethics of securitising infectious diseases.
